This term, teens will craft their own Miniature Worlds — tiny, detailed landscapes inspired by whatever they love, from anime to fantasy to wild west themes. Through sculpture, drawing, and mixed media, they’ll build unique scenes and stories in miniature form.

New Art Unit for Term 3

✨ Let your imagination shrink and soar! This term, students will dive into the enchanting world of miniature-making, designing their own unique tiny universe based on whatever theme sparks their curiosity — from fantasy forests to anime adventures, cowboy towns, or even the world of Arcane or One Piece. The creative direction is completely up to them!

We’ll guide them step-by-step through the entire process of world-building with three hands-on projects:

🎩 Feature Sculpture – Create the centrepiece for your world (think huts, shrines, mushrooms, castles, or hideouts)

⚔️ Prop & Character Making – Sculpt miniature accessories, terrain, creatures, or figures that live in your world

📝 World Lore & Illustration – Design a detailed drawing of your scene and write or imagine the story behind it

We’re thrilled to welcome Emi — a published anime artist, accomplished teacher, and skilled illustrator — to Creativity Hood for a special one-day pop-up event this September!

Emi’s stunning work has been featured in published projects, and she brings a wealth of knowledge in character design, anatomy, and storytelling through art. With her warm teaching style and professional experience, this is a rare opportunity to learn directly from an industry artist.

A couple of adorable snaps from our Thursday and Friday clay classes this week 😊
It’s been tricky to grab photos lately because we’ve been deep in some serious skill-building workshops that need lots of focus and 1:1 modelling time.

The kids have been exploring pinch pots and discovering how connecting two together can create a mouldable base for any woodland creature (or whatever their imaginations dream up!). Most students got their glazes on this week, and we’ll be finishing them up next week.

Exciting times ahead — can’t wait to see them come out of the kiln!

Whooooop whooooop! Classes kick off next week and we’re so excited to see all the kids again! This term is packed with fun — Miss Kellie’s buzzing about the next evolution of our clay workshops, and Miss Antia’s dream of a GIANT chandelier sculpture is coming to life 😍

We’re also welcoming a prac student studying Youth & Community work, launching our Youth Volunteer Program for students keen to help in other classes, and we’re on the lookout for some lovely “Granny Hoods” to join the fun and share their magic 💕

I had this vision in my head—so vivid and clear. A studio sign that captured everything I love about art and everything I want my students to feel. Inspired by the incredible work of @candela.colors, I reached out and asked if she could help bring it to life. There was a little voice inside me nudging, take the risk, invest in making Creativity Hood feel real—feel legit.

And honestly, the impact has been tenfold.

Now, when I walk into the studio, it’s not just a space I created—it’s a space shaped by every person who’s ever raised their hand and said, I want to be part of this.

When people step inside, they don’t just feel my energy—they feel the energy of hundreds of kids who pour their hearts into creating, parents who light up watching their kids thrive and connect, and young adults who come together through DnD, 3D printing, and way too many dad jokes.

All of that… captured in one sign. 💫

Imaginative play at its finest — giving kids the freedom to explore ideas, experiment with materials, and express themselves in wild and wonderful ways.

Building these treehouses was no small task. Each step invited creativity, mess, problem-solving, and plenty of “let’s try it and see!” moments.

And yep, I let six-year-olds use hot glue. Why? Because low-temp glue guns exist — and honestly, six-year-olds are way more capable than we give them credit for. 💪✨

🍩 DIY Donut Sculptures – So Good You’ll Want to Eat Them (But Don’t!) 🍩

Our students had an absolute blast turning their 2D donut painting skills into chunky, colourful 3D creations! Here’s how we did it:

Step 1: Sculpt your donut using masking tape and newspaper — it should fit around your arm like Ella’s did!
Step 2: Paper mâché your donut using flour, salt, and water with newspaper strips. Let it dry overnight until it’s rock solid.
Step 3: Paint the base dough colour using your 2D painting know-how to bring it to life in 3D.
Step 4: Check for missed spots and let it dry before you ice it… not eat it! 😄
Step 5: Mix your icing colour with plaster and paint — the kids loved this part!
Step 6: Add the final touch with decorations from the craft cupboard — pom poms, buttons, pipe cleaners, whatever you can find!

We just had to share this sweet snap of Mr Richie, combining his love of balloons with some gloriously messy art play in the studio yesterday!

Just a heads up if you didn’t know—we run extra-curricular art sessions for little creatives aged 2–5. It’s a drop-and-go program designed to help get them school-ready through play, creativity, and connection.

A huge shoutout to the wonderful Renee Passmore—one of our amazing parents—who generously donated a set of little kids’ chairs to our studio. It might not seem like a big deal from the outside, but if you’ve ever bought educational furniture, you’ll know these chairs can cost up to $45 each!

It’s donations like this that help Creativity Hood grow. We’ve also had a few other beautiful parents offering their time, energy, and supplies—and in those moments, we pause and feel so grateful to have a space where our community supports, connects, and thrives.
